SCROLL: Privacy policy

(Last updated on 3rd April 2017)

This document explains what information we gather when you visit the SCROLL website and explains how that information may be used.

The information within this document does not apply to any surveys run using the SCROLL software. Specifically, it is the sole responsibility of the institution holding the SCROLL licence to provide survey respondents with all appropriate information as required either by law or by other statute either as part of the survey completion process or via other communication.

In addition, registered users of the SCROLL service should refer to the licence agreement signed by their organisation.

Email address use

You will need to provide a valid and operational email address should you wish to log in to SCROLL (either to run surveys or access survey results etc). This address may be visible on any surveys you issue and will be used if you request a replacement password.

Administrators and the Primary Contact within the SCROLL account may be added to our mailing list since this is the primary means of communication between the SCROLL team and our registered users. Users may choose to leave this mailing list at any time.

Your email address will not be passed to any third party except if required by law.

Cookies

Cookies (small files stored on your computer’s hard drive) are used for authenticating registered users and are strictly necessary for registered users of SCROLL.

Our use of cookies

We use cookies on our website to improve your experience and ensure that it is as informative as possible. The cookies we use do not store personally identifiable information nor can they harm your computer. If you choose to block or limit our cookies certain functions may not work to their fullest extent. For more information on how to control your cookie settings and browser settings, or how to delete cookies on your hard drive, please visit: www.aboutcookies.org.

We use two sort of cookies called “persistent” and “session” cookies:

Persistent cookies are used to allow the website to recognise users when they return to the site and to remember certain information about their preferences. These cookies are cookies which stay on your computer permanently, until you "manually" delete them. One of the cookies BOS uses is essential for parts of the site to operate and may already have been set. You may delete and block all cookies from this site, but you will not be able to log in.

Session cookies are used in order to allow customers to carry information across pages of the website, without having to re-enter such information. These cookies delete themselves automatically when you leave a website and go to another, or when you shut down your browser.

By using our website, you agree to the use of cookies and other technologies as set out in this policy. If you do not agree to such use, please refrain from using the website.

Our use of analytics

We use a tool to anonymously track how people use our website. We do this because it helps us to make informed decisions about how to improve the website based on how people use and navigate it, including things like:

  • The page structure
  • The content
  • The design
  • The usability
  • Number of people that have viewed a certain page
  • The page routes that are being taken
  • Number of people using a certain browser

Having this information helps us to develop these things to give you the best experience possible and if you continue to use our site you consent to this. As with our cookies, it is important to realise that all the information we obtain is, and will remain, entirely anonymous.
